The Grapes of Math: How Life Reflects Numbers and Numbers Reflect Life Paperback – June 23, 2015
by Alex Bellos
I thoroughly enjoy reading math books. Not those textbooks of years ago where every page took an eternity to get through and in the end it left you more confused than when you started. No, I am talking about books written like stories, with wit and wisdom. “The Grapes of Math” is one of my recent reads and I keep going back to it.
Mr. Bellos writes with a great sense of humor and clarifies concepts forgotten long ago. He makes math relevant to your life today. The chapter headings are brilliantly clever, “Every Number Tells a Story”, “The Long Tail of the Law”, “Love Triangles”, “Coneheads”, “Bring on the Revolution”, “All about e”, “The Positive Power of Negative Thinking”, “Professor Calculus”, “The Titl of This Chapter Contains Three Erors”, “Cell Mates”. Don’t you want to read the book now!
